About Trainer

Dr. Ermias Mergia Terefe is a registered consultant pharmacist, holding a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, an MSc. in Pharmacology, and a BPharm. His extensive expertise includes being an e-Learning Champion, curriculum specialist, health professionals education and training expert, and instructional designer.

Currently, Dr. Terefe serves as a Program Leader and Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at United States International University-Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.

Before joining USIU-Africa, Dr. Terefe was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Adama Hospital Medical College (AHMC) in Ethiopia, where he lectured on various pharmacology modules for both medicine and pharmacy students. Prior to this, he worked at Rift Valley University in Ethiopia, where he served as the head of the pharmacy department and taught pharmacology and related courses to pharmacy, nursing, and public health students. His early career also included roles as a hospital pharmacist at Medhanialem General Hospital and as a Production Pharmacist at Diab Industries Ltd. in Ethiopia.

Dr. Terefe's contributions extend to serving as an Education and Training Officer for the USAID-funded Strengthening Human Resource for Health (S-HRH) project at Jhpiego-Ethiopia. In this role, he supported over 10 universities in Ethiopia to enhance the quality of health professionals' education.

He has also served as the chair of the Research, Project, and Professional Development (RPPD) committee of the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Association (EPA). Dr. Terefe's rich training and consultancy experience spans medical education and pedagogical training, including facilitation skills, ETS, CTS, simulation skills, M4L, as well as technical updates on HIV, RDU, PSCM, AFP, vaccinology, AMR, and pharmacovigilance.

Presently, Dr. Terefe is an expert resource person for the Kenya Ministry of Health and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, contributing to the review of the National Pharmacy Core Curricula and the development of Pharmacy Practice guidelines and other initiatives.

Dr. Terefe's exceptional leadership in curriculum design and module development for the training of middle-level pharmacy and medical laboratory professionals has earned him national recognition from the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), Oromia Regional Health Bureau (ORHB), Oromia TVET Bureau, and AHMC.
